The Cabildo brings music to the Day of the Canary Islands

The timple player from Lanzarote Benito Cabrera, accompanied by Kepa Junkera and Cristina Pato, as well as the Coral Polifónica San Ginés brought music to the activities planned for the Day of the Canary Islands, as part of the official cellebration organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

Feria Insular de Artesanía de Lanzarote

La Feria de Artesanía de Lanzarote se celebra todos los años en la localidad de Mancha Blanca (Tinajo) en el mes de septiembre. La feria reúne a más de un centenar de artesanos procedentes de todos los rincones de las islas, que mostrarán al público toda la artesanía que se elabora en Canarias. Cada año acude un país como invitado, exponiendo su cultura y tradiciones en madera y porcelana, fundamentalmente.

Curso de Carpintería de Ribera

El Cabildo de Lanzarote, a través del área de Industria, Comercio y Consumo, organizó un curso de carpintería de ribera para 10 alumnos, eminentemente práctico, impartido por el artesano Agustín Jordán. El seminario se desarrolló en un taller de la barriada de Tenorio, en Arrecife, de lunes a viernes, en horario de 17:00 a 20:00 horas, y consistó en la construcción de una embarcación de unos 8 metros y medio de eslora.

 
The Seminar on Canarian Embroidery concludes

Last June 16 the II Edition of the seminar on Canarian embroidery came to a close. These expert classes had been organized by the Area of Industry, Commerce, Crafts and Consumer Affairs of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, under the direction of councilwoman Lourdes Bernal. A total of 25 women took part in the seminar, true to the tradition of the seamstress of the island. The classes took place at the Monumento al Campesino. The closing act included the exhibition of the works carried out during the seminar by the attending students, who thus showed what was learned during the seminar.

Arrecife's Flee Market, a Cultural Interest Property

The Governing Council has given the go ahead to the declaration as a Cultural Interest Property (B.I.C.) for the Flee Market in the Calle Real of Arrecife, a buliding with a manorial typology built in  1806 by a family of farmers who came into some wealth as the result of commercing with barrilla. Up until the end of the century the building was inhabited by the descendants of the family, teh tallest building in the most luxurius of streets in the island. Between1889 and 1967 it became the sitting house of the Sociedad Recreativa, Deportiva y Cultural “La Democracia”, under rent, although it is not known if it served such purposses before this date.
